Three Arrested in Ormoclinos Brawl to Be Immediately Deported
Cypriot authorities have announced that three individuals arrested following an altercation during the attempted eviction of a group of migrants from an apartment building in the suburb of Ormoclinos, Larnaca, will be immediately deported. Police are still searching for the other suspects involved in the incident.
The incident occurred on Saturday, April 5, when the building manager attempted to evict 15 foreign nationals living in the building after receiving an eviction order. The situation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, prompting the police to respond.
After the migrants attacked officers, tear gas was deployed to regain control. During the chaos, a 27-year-old man from the Democratic Republic of Congo was severely injured and is currently in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital.
In the course of the investigation, three individuals were arrested. Their asylum applications had been denied, and as a result, they will be immediately repatriated.
Two other suspects are still at large. Their asylum requests were also rejected, so if arrested, they too will be repatriated.
The Ministry of Justice and the Deputy Minister of Migration stated that the government will continue to take firm action against criminal behavior by foreigners.
In recent weeks, more than 120 foreigners have been arrested and repatriated from the old city in coordination with the police and other authorities.
