To combat the forest fire in Limassol, aviation was deployed
A major forest fire broke out this morning in the Limassol province. The fire got out of control, and aviation from British bases was called in to extinguish it.
According to emergency services, the fire started around 11 a.m. in Ayios Silas. Four fire trucks from the Limassol Fire Department, as well as an aircraft from the Forestry Department and a police helicopter, are at the scene.
Later, air support was reinforced with a helicopter from a British base. Additionally, a fire engine with a team of firefighters from British bases and teams from organized volunteer squads "KITAS" and "SOS" were mobilized.
Extinguishing the forest fire is complicated by strong winds, causing the fire to spread rapidly.
According to the latest information, as the fire approaches the factories, authorities have ordered the evacuation of the bioengineering zone in Ayios Silas.
In this area, it was decided to establish a fire management center.
