Two people have been detained at Paphos Airport for smuggling cigarettes into the United Kingdom
At Paphos Airport, two individuals have been arrested for attempting to smuggle a large quantity of contraband cigarettes into the United Kingdom. In total, the men attempted to export 23,000 cigarettes.
The Paphos District Court issued a four-day detention order on Sunday against the two individuals for illegal possession of duty-free goods.
According to Assistant Police Chief Michalis Nicolaou, two individuals aged 26 and 47 arrived at Paphos Airport with the intention of flying to the United Kingdom.
During baggage inspection by customs officers, more than 3.8 kg of tobacco and 119 boxes containing over 23,000 cigarettes were discovered and confiscated.
Both smugglers were arrested for illegal possession of duty-free goods and placed under four days of house arrest.
