Two Cypriot cities made it onto the list of the worst places for remote workers

Two cities in Cyprus made it onto the list of the worst places for remote work. The rating was compiled by a British company specializing in office equipment sales.

The company's analysts conducted a study in February 2024 and compiled lists of the 10 best and worst cities in the world for those who can afford to work remotely. The ratings took into account indicators such as Wi-Fi speed, rental housing costs, electricity bills, as well as overall quality of life and safety.

Two cities in Cyprus ended up in the anti-rating: Limassol closed the top five worst places for remote work, while Larnaca landed in seventh place. The top outsiders include three Greek cities.

According to the research authors, the worst city for remote workers was Athens. Next in line were Thessaloniki, and closing out the trio was Belgrade. Patras, Greece, ranked fourth. Also making the list of unsuitable places for remote work were Novi Sad (6th), Sarajevo (8th), Paris (9th), and Lyon (10th).

"Despite Athens being known for its rich history and cultural heritage, Greece's capital ranks in the Top 15 European cities with the lowest safety index, scoring 53 points," explained the experts regarding their decision.

Additionally, the Greek capital scored poorly in terms of quality of life and ranked low in the happiness index.

Limassol, ranking fifth in the list of the worst cities in Europe for remote work, scored 53.29 points. One reason is the high cost of housing and utilities. Additionally, Limassol scored poorly in happiness, quality of life, and safety rankings.

"A one-bedroom apartment in the city center will cost you £1336 (€1559) per month, and basic bills will amount to nearly £190 (about €222)," explained the rating compilers.

Larnaca took seventh place in the anti-rating, scoring 53.78 points.

Luxembourg was named the best European city for remote work. The top three also included Olomouc (Czech Republic) and Rotterdam (Netherlands). Also in the top 10 places on the planet for remote workers were Aalborg (Denmark), Reykjavik (Iceland), Utrecht (Netherlands), Aarhus (Denmark), Eindhoven (Netherlands), Pilsen (Czech Republic), and Oradea (Romania).

It is noted that none of the cities in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, or Germany made it into the top 10 most comfortable cities in Europe for online work.
