Two police officers serving with the British military bases in Cyprus have been recognized by His Majesty King Charles III and awarded the Overseas Territories Police Medal. Their names were included in this year’s New Year Honours List.
The prestigious accolade was bestowed upon Senior Constable Melina Papagrigoriou and Assistant Police Director Constantinos Petrou in recognition of their exceptional contributions to law enforcement within the British bases.
The announcement highlighted that during her 27-year career, Senior Constable Papagrigoriou has made significant strides in improving the operational effectiveness and overall performance of the British bases' police force.
“I am incredibly proud and deeply grateful to receive the Overseas Territories Police Medal. This honor recognizes the hard work and dedication I have poured into my 27-year career,” said Papagrigoriou.
Assistant Police Director Constantinos Petrou, based in Akrotiri and boasting 28 years of experience, was also praised for his pivotal role in advancing initiatives to enhance public safety and protection.
“I am profoundly honored by this recognition and sincerely grateful to His Majesty King Charles III for awarding me the medal. This achievement would not have been possible without the steadfast support of my colleagues in the UK Police,” Petrou expressed.
Both officers are expected to formally receive their medals later this year during an official ceremony.
