Expertise failed to determine the identity of the body found in the Sotira area
The investigation into the circumstances of the discovery of a decomposed body in the Sotira area near Famagusta, Cyprus, will continue. On Tuesday, forensic experts worked to determine the gender and age of the body.
However, the autopsy performed at a general hospital in Nicosia yielded no results. Specialists were unable to determine the gender, age, or cause of death of the individual.
According to Famagusta police representative Stiva Theodulu, forensic experts found no bodily injuries on the body, and anthropologists took X-rays for additional information.
"The time of death cannot be estimated due to the advanced decomposition of the body, so samples were taken for additional genetic testing," said a police representative.
It was previously reported that the body was discovered on Monday, around two o'clock in the afternoon. A local resident, who went fishing in the Agia Thekla area, notified the police after discovering the body in a rocky area in Sotira.
Upon arrival at the scene, police officers cordoned off the area. During the inspection, it was revealed that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, with the lower part of the body missing.
The police speculate that the body belonged to a woman. It is possible that it is the body of a migrant washed ashore from the sea. However, other scenarios are not excluded.
