The Ethnological Museum in Nicosia will be closed for one day
The House of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios in Nicosia will be closed for one day. The Ethnological Museum will be closed on Saturday, March 30, due to emergency repairs.
According to the Antiquities Department, the closure of the museum is related to visitor safety, as repair work will be carried out in the garden.
The restoration of the garden will take the entire day. The staff of the Antiquities Department apologizes to visitors for any inconvenience caused.
The estate of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios is one of the most important surviving buildings of the 18th century in Nicosia. The museum house was restored by the Department of Antiquities for the needs of the Cyprus Ethnological Museum, receiving the "Europa Nostra" award in 1988.
The two-story building was constructed in 1793 from locally quarried sandstone blocks and was once the residence of the most famous Dragoman of Cyprus, Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios, who was executed by the Turks in 1809.
