Eurostat Assesses Expected Working Life Expectancy in Cyprus

According to a study by the European Statistical Agency Eurostat, the expected duration of working life in Cyprus exceeds the EU average.

Specifically, in 2023, the expected average working life expectancy for 15-year-olds in Cyprus is projected to be 39 years. The average for the European Union is 36.9 years.

In some countries, the duration of working life exceeds 40 years. The highest figures are recorded in the Netherlands (43.7 years), Sweden (43.1 years), and Denmark (41.3 years).

The lowest figures are found in Romania (32.2 years), Italy (32.9 years), and Croatia (34.0 years).

Additionally, the data showed that in 2023, the average duration of working life in the EU is higher for men than for women.

The expected working life for men in the EU averages 39.0 years, while for women it averages 34.7 years.

In Cyprus, the average working life expectancy for men is 41.6 years, and for women, it is 36.3 years.

In EU countries, the expected average working life expectancy has been steadily increasing since 2013. It first declined in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and returned to pre-pandemic levels in 2021.
