Cyprus Cherry Festival Scheduled for Early June
During the first weekend of June, the annual Cherry Festival will enchant the villages of Kambos and Tsakkistra in Cyprus. Organized by the Kambos Community Council with the backing of the Kambu-Tsakkistra Cultural Development Association, under the patronage of Minister of Agriculture Maria Panayiotou and the Ministry of Tourism, this event promises a vibrant celebration.
Taking place on June 1st and 2nd in Kambos, the festival boasts a diverse lineup of activities. Attendees can immerse themselves in a two-day artistic showcase by Giorgos Kalogirou alongside Katerina Paraschu, Andreas Elesnitsalis, and Paris Parashos.
Saturday's festivities will include workshops held in the village square, where visitors can witness traditional bread baking and cherry sweet-making. The day will culminate in a series of lively performances. Additionally, the Embassy of Japan in Cyprus will offer insights into the creation of moti, a traditional Japanese dessert, adding an international flair to the event.
As part of the Cherry Festival, a captivating photo exhibition titled "Faces" will be on display, featuring photographs curated by Nikos Koftoros. Through his lens, Koftoros captures the essence of village life, portraying landscapes and the diverse faces of rural residents who have left an indelible mark on society. The exhibition, held in collaboration with the Commissioner for Mountain Communities Development, Haralambos Christophides, and supported by the Press and Information Office, promises a glimpse into the soul of Cyprus's rural heritage.
The annual Cherry Festival in Kambos and Tsakkistra celebrates the bountiful cherry harvest and pays homage to the dedicated efforts of farmers and producers.
"The cherry harvest embodies hard work, dedication, and collective endeavor, underscoring the significance of agriculture and traditions in our village history," remarked the organizers in a statement.
