Iraqi Citizen Attempted to Fly Out of Paphos with Fake French Passport
Police arrested an Iraqi citizen at Paphos Airport who attempted to leave the country using a fake French passport. The 27-year-old man is facing charges of forgery, distribution of counterfeit documents, and impersonation.
According to Paphos Police Assistant Director Michalis Nikolaou, the incident occurred on July 17 at around 10:00 PM. A suspicious individual was spotted in the departure hall of Paphos Airport trying to travel to Brussels using a French identity card.
During the document check, it was revealed that the ID had been reported lost or stolen to Greek authorities. Additionally, the passport photo and other identifying elements had been altered.
During interrogation, the man stated that the document did not belong to him, that he was 27 years old, and that he was from Iraq. He also had his real passport with him.
It appears the individual entered Cyprus illegally from the northern part of the island. He has been arrested and detained.
