Thunderstorm Causes Widespread Power Outages in Paphos District
Severe thunderstorms have disrupted electricity supply, leaving the villages of Emba, Tala, Chloraka, and Kissonerga in the Paphos district completely without power. Over the past 24 hours, the region has experienced three significant power outages.
Marios Metaxas, the community leader of Emba, explained that the power cuts were triggered by the harsh weather conditions in the Paphos area. Two of these outages lasted several hours, compounding the inconvenience for residents.
The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) is actively working to restore power to the affected areas. According to EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou, the outages were caused by heightened lightning activity, which severely impacted the electrical network.
Repair teams are on the ground, working to fix and replace damaged equipment. However, some locations remain inaccessible due to the storm's aftermath, delaying restoration efforts.
Residents are being asked to exercise patience during ongoing repair work, which may lead to brief interruptions in power lasting up to 30 minutes.
