Due to rains and thunderstorms in Cyprus, traffic is difficult: drivers are urged to be cautious
The Meteorological Department of the Republic of Cyprus has issued a yellow warning due to bad weather. Heavy rain and hail with snowfall are expected in the Troodos Mountains. Drivers are urged to be cautious as traffic is difficult due to downpours.
Heavy rain has already caused problems on the road network in Nicosia.
Due to torrential rain and strong winds, traffic is particularly difficult on roads in urban areas of the capital and on sections along the Nicosia - Limassol highway to the Limbia and Kornos areas, as well as on the Nicosia - Kokkinotrimithia highway to the Astromeriti area in Morphou.
In the Troodos areas, there is also rain with hail, which also affects traffic, but roads are open to all vehicles.
Police recommend drivers to turn on their headlights, adhere to speed limits, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
The yellow warning issued by the Meteorological Department for severe storms and hail is valid until 17:00 on Monday.
According to meteorologists, by the evening, dangerous weather conditions will ease, but later rains will resume in the south of the country and spread throughout the island, so it is expected that the "yellow warning" will be renewed.
