Due to Bomb Threats, Cyprus Police Seek Interpol Assistance
The Republic of Cyprus Police have reached out to Interpol and Europol regarding electronic threats of bombings targeting schools across the island.
According to police reports, directors of several public primary and secondary schools throughout Cyprus received threatening emails earlier today.
The Police Headquarters promptly convened a meeting attended by the Chief of Police, his deputy, the Director-General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth, as well as directors and officials from two departments.
In coordination with the police and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth, school directors were instructed to implement the appropriate protocols applicable in such cases.
Recall that on the morning of May 17, a wave of messages regarding school bombings was reported. Threats of bombs planted in schools have gained nationwide attention, with alarming calls and emails originating from all provinces of the island.
The first reports of school threats reached the police around two o'clock in the morning from Limassol after secretaries of educational institutions received alarming emails. Subsequently, similar threats emerged from schools in Paphos and Nicosia.
Several educational establishments have already been evacuated by security forces. The police are taking all necessary measures to track down the hoax terrorists and are attempting to trace the source of the electronic mails.
