Heavy Snowfall Shuts Down Roads to Troodos for All Vehicles
In Cyprus, intense snowfall last night forced the closure of all mountain roads leading to Troodos. The restrictions apply to every type of vehicle, regardless of drivetrain or anti-skid equipment.
According to police reports, the affected routes include Platania–Troodos, Karvounas–Troodos, and Prodromos–Troodos.
The Platania area recorded the heaviest snowfall. Drivers who must travel in these conditions are strongly advised to reduce their speed significantly and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
This disruption comes as Cyclone Helena continues to batter the island. Alongside transportation challenges, the severe weather—including heavy rains, thunderstorms, and snowfalls—caused power line damage in multiple areas last night. Repair crews are struggling to restore electricity due to the ongoing adverse conditions.
As of this morning, emergency power outages have been reported in parts of Paphos and Larnaca districts.
