By the end of the week, the Foreign Ministers of more than 40 countries will convene in Cyprus
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Konstantinos Kombos, announced that heads of foreign ministries from over 40 countries will gather on the island by the end of the week. On March 21, they will meet to discuss the operational coordination of the next steps regarding the aid corridor to the Gaza sector.
Speaking at the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, Konstantinos Kombos stated that this meeting in Cyprus will focus on enhancing the potential at the stages of dispatch, transportation, and distribution of aid, as well as on establishing a specialized fund to support the project in the long term.
According to the minister, minor technical issues that arose during the dispatch of the first batch of humanitarian cargo have been addressed. The establishment of the temporary US pier is ongoing and may be ready sooner than initially discussed.
Konstantinos Kombos also stated that he will continue to inform the council about the progress of work on the maritime corridor and noted that "the first batch of 200 tons arrived in Gaza and was successfully distributed." "The second, larger batch is ready for dispatch. Thus, we now have confirmation of the concept, the goal being to systematically and on an expanded scale continue the flow of supplies to Gaza," added the Cypriot Foreign Minister.
It is expected that during the meeting on March 21, discussions will focus on expanding operational capabilities, including the allocation of additional transportation means.
"We have created a maritime corridor, which is a lifeline for the people of Gaza. And with this purpose, we will continue to work with our partners," added the minister.
