Cyprus is hit by a powerful cyclone named "Avgi": on January 30, the region expects rain, thunderstorms, and snow
According to the Department of Meteorology of the Republic of Cyprus, on Tuesday, January 30, the region is experiencing low pressure. A strong cyclone named "Avgi" (Dawn) will affect the island until Thursday. The region is still under an "orange" storm warning.
In the first half of the day, the weather will be mostly cloudy, with local rain, isolated thunderstorms, and snowfall in the mountains. Hail and intensification of snowfall are possible during thunderstorms.
According to the meteorological forecast, the daytime air temperature today will reach up to 12°C in the inland areas, up to 15°C on the coast, and down to 2°C in the mountainous areas.
By evening and night, the weather will still be cloudy, with local rain, isolated thunderstorms, and snow in the mountains. Hail may also occur during thunderstorms, and snowfall may temporarily intensify.
The air temperature will drop to about 7°C in the inland areas, down to 8°C on the coasts, and down to 2°C in the mountainous areas. Freezing is expected in the mountains and in some inland areas of the country.
It is also noted that the snow cover height in the Troodos Mountains at the time of the bulletin release was 9 cm.
On Wednesday, the air temperature will remain below average climatic values, but by Friday, it will gradually increase, approaching seasonal average values or slightly higher.
