Ahead of the upcoming Easter holidays, the Police of the Republic of Cyprus is conducting a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of fireworks and other pyrotechnics. Law enforcement officials have called the launching of fireworks and firecrackers during Easter "a dangerous and illegal habit."

According to the police press service, the campaign targets young people. Special attention is paid to the potential physical harm that may result from the uncontrolled use of pyrotechnics.

"Unfortunately, we have seen many examples of young people who have suffered burns or other injuries or even died as a result of fireworks explosions," the police statement said.

It is also noted that owners of hunting stores and other retail outlets selling pyrotechnics are informed about the criminal liability they may face for selling illegally used products.

"The police are stepping up their efforts to identify and arrest individuals who illegally import, possess, sell, manufacture, or use firecrackers or any materials that can be used to produce firecrackers," the statement said.

During Holy Week, the police plan to increase patrols to ensure compliance with the laws.
