The Consulate of Bangladesh in Cyprus responded to the death of a compatriot who jumped from a window

The Honorary Consulate of Bangladesh in Cyprus described the death of a 23-year-old citizen of the South Asian country as a tragedy. The man jumped from the fifth-floor window while attempting to evade immigration police and died upon impact.

"It's a tragedy, especially on the day of Eid al-Fitr. It's sad that the police chose this festive day to conduct a raid that had such tragic consequences," said Honorary Consul of Bangladesh, Rupen Paul Kalaydjian, in an interview with Cyprus Mail.

Recall that the tragedy occurred in Limassol the previous morning.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. Immigration officers raided an apartment on the fifth floor of a residential building after receiving a signal that illegal migrants were living there.

During the immigration raid, two illegal migrants jumped from the fifth floor of the building. One man died, and the other is in critical condition in the hospital.

A total of 11 people from Bangladesh were residing in the two-bedroom apartment. They were all recognized as illegal migrants and paid €2000 in rent. The police asked the landlord to come to the station with the rental agreement.

"Upon learning of the incident, we immediately contacted the Limassol police department. We are waiting for the police report on the investigation of the incident," noted Rupen Paul Kalaydjian.

The Honorary Consul added that he is also trying to gather more information from members of the Bangladeshi community living in Cyprus.
