A massive wildfire that scorched 35 hectares near Limassol has been brought under control early this morning, but firefighters remain on high alert as flare-ups continue.

According to emergency services, the fire broke out around 7:00 PM on Tuesday in the village of Kilani (Vasa-Omodos area). Strong winds and the region’s rugged terrain caused the flames to spread rapidly, making containment efforts difficult. Fire crews worked through the night to control the blaze.

To strengthen the response, three fully equipped fire trucks were dispatched from EMAK and Larnaca.

Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis confirmed that significant ground forces are still deployed at the scene, as sporadic reignitions continue.

Meanwhile, early this morning, EMAK personnel were redirected to Larnaca to battle another major fire. At dawn, a blaze broke out in Agios Theodoros, engulfing three small houses with metal frames and drywall cladding. Four fire trucks were sent to the scene.

All three homes sustained significant damage. Authorities will conduct an investigation today to determine the cause of the fire.
