Major fire in the mountains of Moutayiak
Earlier today, in the afternoon, a serious forest fire broke out in the Moutayiak area, located near the city of Limassol on the southern coast of Cyprus. Preliminary reports indicate that the fire started around 14:00. Due to strong winds, the flames spread quickly, increasing the threat to nearby residential areas.
Firefighting units were immediately dispatched to the scene. Aerial firefighting was also involved, with two specialized planes performing air suppression operations. Thanks to their work and the coordinated efforts of ground crews, the spread of the fire was slowed, and the most dangerous sections were localized.
Local authorities are making every effort to prevent a repeat of tragic summer incidents. Remembering the large fires in July, experts emphasize that rapid response and coordinated work between ground and aerial services are critical to avoiding similar disasters today.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Local administration urges residents to remain calm, avoid panic, and promptly follow official announcements — adhere to recommendations from firefighters and authorities, and act according to the instructions of rescue services if necessary.
