Larnaca has joined the "Green Cities Network."
The Cyprus Center for Environmental Research and Education named Larnaca a "Green City" in 2023, signifying automatic inclusion in the "Green Cities and Villages Network."
In 2023, environmental awards were given for the "Courtyard Redesign and Restoration of Part of the Zuhuri Building Complex" in the "Culture and Environment" category. Additionally, recognition was given for the "Modernization of Streets in the Center of Larnaca and Infrastructure for People with Disabilities" in the "Sustainable Movement and Transport" category.
It is worth noting that previously, Nicosia was awarded the "Green City" prize for the reconstruction of Makarios, Stasikratous, and Evagoros streets near the city center.
The village of Kissonerga in Paphos was also included in the "Green Cities and Villages Network."
The formal ceremony for awarding the "Green Flags" to Larnaca, Nicosia, and Kissonerga will take place on January 31, 2024, at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, in the presence of the Head of State, Nikos Christodoulides.
