Ministry of Interior of Cyprus Approves Elections to the European Parliament and Local Authorities
The Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus officially announced on Friday that elections to the European Parliament and local authorities will take place on Sunday, June 9th. The deadline for candidate submissions was set for April 24th.
The statement was published in the form of an official decree, in which June 9th was also designated as the date for local authority elections.
Thursday, April 25th, was set as the deadline for submitting candidacies for the positions of district self-government organization chairpersons, mayors, deputy mayors, municipal councilors, and school board members.
Monday, April 29th, 2024, is appointed as the day for submitting candidacies for the positions of community leader and community council member.
Polling stations will open at 7:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM. Cyprus will elect six Members of the European Parliament. In the European elections, voters will receive ballots with candidates from political parties, civic associations, or independent candidates.
Any European citizen aged 18 and older, provided they are registered in a special voters' list, may vote. It is also possible to vote from abroad under certain conditions.
