Another boat with migrants arrived in Cyprus: two Syrians arrested
Off the coast of Cyprus, another boat with illegal migrants was spotted yesterday. This is the 13th vessel with illegal immigrants to arrive on the island recently.
According to the police press service, the boat was discovered near Cape Greco yesterday afternoon. There were a total of 22 people on board the boat: 14 men, 3 women, and 5 children.
Two Syrians have been arrested on suspicion of organizing the illegal migrant smuggling channel, one of whom is only 16 years old.
It is worth noting that since Sunday, a total of 13 boats have arrived on the island, carrying 739 illegal migrants. Since the beginning of the year, the number of arriving migrants has reached 2448.
Due to the sharply increased flow of illegal migrants, the National Security Council of the Republic of Cyprus convened an emergency meeting.
The President of the country, Nikos Christodoulidis, addressed the head of the EU Commission with a request to intervene in the situation.
