Another 60 Illegal Migrants Arrested in Cyprus

Police in the Republic of Cyprus have detained 60 more individuals found to be living illegally on the island. The arrests were made by the Foreigners and Immigration Service during an operation carried out in Nicosia.

According to the police, the operation took place last night as part of a coordinated effort involving law enforcement, the Nicosia Municipality, and other government agencies. The initiative, launched by Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis, aims to “strengthen the sense of security among Nicosia residents.” Officers carried out searches in various parts of the capital.

As a result, 60 third-country nationals residing illegally in Cyprus were identified and arrested. Nineteen of them have already been deported to their home countries, while repatriation procedures for the remaining detainees are still underway.

Authorities continue their daily efforts to locate and repatriate individuals living in Cyprus without legal status. Last year alone, nearly 10,000 illegal migrants were deported from the island.
