Two foreigners in Cyprus wanted to smoke a hookah and almost set the forest on fire.
The police of the Republic of Cyprus detained two foreigners who nearly started a forest fire. The men just wanted to smoke a hookah and started a fire in a ravine to do so.
According to the police, the incident occurred on August 15, the day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Around 6:00 PM, the Platron police station received information that two people had started a fire in the forest near a picnic area in Trooditissa.
Police officers arrived at the scene, where they found two foreigners, aged 22 and 21, in a ravine among wild vegetation with hookahs, charcoal, and two gas burners. As soon as the young men noticed the police, they immediately extinguished the small fire by themselves.
During questioning, they said they came to the scene intending to smoke hookahs and started the fire to light the charcoal because the gas burner they had with them wasn't working.
Both young men have been arrested for further investigation. It should be noted that lighting fires in Cyprus is currently prohibited.
