In Cyprus, there are more mobile phones than residents
According to data published by the Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation, there are more mobile phones in Cyprus than residents. Last year, the number of mobile phones in Cyprus increased by 4.4 percent, while landlines decreased by 10 percent.
According to the report, at the end of 2022, there were still 297,382 fixed telephone lines in Cyprus, but their number is decreasing. In 2021, there were 309,000.
About 65 percent of landline phones currently use fiber optic networks. The data show that the telecommunication company Cyta still holds a large share of the fixed-line market - over 56 percent.
Cablenet is its largest competitor and currently holds 23.8% of the market. Primetel and Epic remain relatively stable, each fluctuating around 10%.
Mobile phone market data show that a total of 1.43 million devices are in circulation in Cyprus, which is 4.4 percent, or 17,647 new users, more than in 2022.
Just over a million users are on a contract basis, and about 428,000 are prepaid users.
- The mobile phone market penetration rate is 156%, which means there are more mobile phones in Cyprus than people," the statement said.
53.77% of users use unlimited data, voice calls, and SMS. It is expected that this percentage will continue to grow.
