In Cyprus, battles for sun beds on the beaches began
The traditional beach season has kicked off on the popular shores of the Republic of Cyprus, playfully dubbed the "battle for sun loungers" by locals. Vacationers are eager to secure their spot in advance, often leaving towels or belongings on loungers from the evening prior.
Speaking on the "Alpha - Good Morning" program, Loizos Loizou, president of the Central Beach Committee, emphasized that such practices are unacceptable: beach managers are required to clear towels left by tourists early in the morning when they begin their shift.
Loizou added that by the same token, it's not permissible to reserve a lounger in advance for someone else in the family or group who may arrive later.
Consequently, beach managers have been granted the authority to remove towels left on unoccupied loungers. However, if the sun lounger and umbrella have been paid for, the towel will be left undisturbed. This strict enforcement aims to prevent unauthorized hoarding of loungers.
Moreover, the head of Cypriot beaches noted that despite a general increase, prices for beach accessories remain regulated: legislation caps the price of each sun lounger or umbrella at 2.50 euros.
Nevertheless, some beach operators may ask for up to 10 euros for a sun lounger, often offering additional services like water or towels, which is considered unlawful. Visitors are not obligated to pay beyond the specified 2.50 euros.
