Birthrate among Cypriots is decreasing
Four years after its establishment, the National Body for Birthrate Reduction and Family Policy held a meeting in Cyprus. The birthrate among Cypriots has decreased by more than 400 children per year.
According to the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Demographics and member of parliament from "Ela," Linos Papayiannis, the meeting was attended by officials representing four ministries. Linos Papayiannis reported that in 2022, the number of births of children to two Cypriot parents was 7,860, while in 2023 it was 7,436.
Meanwhile, in 2022, the number of births to both foreign parents was 2,887, and in 2023, it increased to 3,072.
The committee called on the president to take action on this issue.
