Assessing Damage from Severe Weather in Cyprus
Authorities in the Republic of Cyprus are currently evaluating the damage caused by the severe weather that affected the country over the past weekend. Farmers in Limassol and Paphos have been particularly hard hit by the storm.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Veterinary Services is documenting the damage to agricultural and livestock farms affected by the harsh weather conditions that occurred on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Ministry, livestock farms and breeders in the communities of Agios Ambrosios, Anogyra, Avdimou, Dora, Malia, Pachnas, Prastio Avdimou, Kivides, and Sotira in the Limassol district, as well as Anarita, Mamonia, and Choletria in the Paphos district, sustained the most damage.
Additionally, agricultural lands in the Paphos area suffered significant damage due to the storm, particularly in the eastern and western communities, where various vegetables, including olives and avocados, are grown.
On Sunday and Monday, staff from the Ministry of Agriculture and Veterinary Services visited the affected areas to gain a clearer understanding of the extent of the damage.
"The goal of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment is to register and assess the damage as quickly as possible while supporting the farmers," the agency stated. After documenting the damage, they will follow the procedures outlined in the National Program for Support from Adverse Weather Conditions, which includes submitting a damage declaration to local district offices.
To facilitate this process, the ministry urges all farmers affected by the severe weather to contact their local agricultural offices immediately at the following numbers: 25809903 and 25803909 in Limassol, and 26804594 and 26804601 in Paphos.
