Cyprus Extends Road Tax Payment Deadline
The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Cyprus has announced an extension for road tax payments, encouraging vehicle owners to settle their dues between January 7 and March 11, 2025, to avoid penalties.
The extended payment period begins on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, and ends at midnight on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. After this deadline, late payments will incur a penalty of €10, plus an additional 10% of the license fee.
To renew their vehicle documents, owners must provide a valid Certificate of Roadworthiness (MOT) and proof of insurance.
Vehicle licenses can conveniently be renewed online via the Road Transport Department’s website, with options to renew for periods of three, six, nine, or twelve months.
For vehicles with special designations—such as those owned by embassies, couriers, large families, vintage vehicle collectors, or the United Nations—renewals must be completed in person at the department’s offices.
Car owners who do not plan to renew their license must submit an official notification. Failure to do so will result in continued liability for license fees.
Vehicles without renewed licenses for 2024 and without a submitted withdrawal notice will be removed from the department’s registry unless all outstanding obligations are settled by March 11, 2025.
The Road Transport Department has advised vehicle owners to avoid waiting until the last moment to prevent system overloads and ensure smooth processing.
