Increase in Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in Cyprus
According to the Statistical Service, the number of vehicle registrations in Cyprus rose by 10.1% from January to November 2024. There is a growing popularity of electric and hybrid vehicles on the island.
Electric cars now represent 4% of all new vehicle registrations, while hybrid vehicles account for 36.9%.
During this period, a total of 46,780 vehicles were registered, surpassing the 42,500 registrations of the previous year.
In November 2024, there was a slight decline: overall registrations decreased by 3.7%, from 3,997 in November 2023 to 3,850. Specifically, the number of passenger car registrations fell by 10%, from 3,243 to 2,920.
From January to November 2024, the number of sedan registrations grew by 6.5%, reaching 36,360 units, compared to 34,140 in the same period the previous year.
Of these, 39.5% (14,380 vehicles) were new, and 60.5% (21,980 vehicles) were used.
Meanwhile, the number of rental car registrations showed a significant decrease, down by 29.7%, to 3,789.
Gasoline-powered vehicles made up 48.9% of the total, down from 58.2% in 2023.
The share of diesel vehicles remained stable at 10.1%, slightly lower than last year’s 10.2%.
Registrations for freight vehicles saw a significant increase, rising by 30.6% (5,355 units). Light trucks grew by 33.7% to 4,277, heavy trucks by 25.9% to 628, and tractor units for trailers surged by 54.2% to 222.
The number of two-wheeled vehicles also increased. The number of mopeds with engines under 50cc jumped by 115.7%, reaching 657, while the number of motorcycles with engines over 50cc grew by 16.1%, reaching 3,657.
