Three Arrested in Cyprus Over Alleged Football Contract Forgery
Three individuals have been arrested in the Republic of Cyprus on suspicion of forging football contracts. The suspects may be connected to a second-division football club.
According to the police press office, the detainees, aged 44, 57, and 58, face charges of conspiracy to commit a criminal offense and fraud, as well as the creation and distribution of counterfeit documents.
Local media reports suggest that the forged contracts were submitted to the Cyprus Football Association.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged crimes took place between July 2024 and the present, primarily in the Famagusta and Nicosia areas.
The arrested individuals are believed to have ties to a second-division football club: the club's chairman, the head manager, and a person acting as a football agent.
Investigators believe the suspects created one set of contracts with players, only to later submit different documents to the Cyprus Football Association. One contract was reportedly forged without the player's knowledge.
Following their arrests, the three suspects appeared before the Famagusta District Court, which granted the police’s request to hold them in custody for eight days.
