Cyprus plans to install 300 “smart” bus stops with shelters and real-time transportation arrival alerts over the next year. A contract valued at 74 million euros has been awarded to the joint venture AS Air Control Ltd & Amco.

The contract includes both the installation and maintenance of these complexes for 10 years. Concurrently, around 100 existing shelters at bus terminals will be refurbished.

Officials have announced that the new stations will include charging points, solar panels, waste bins, and covered bike areas. Additionally, screens displaying real-time bus arrival information will be installed, accessible through the “Cyprus Bus” mobile app.

The new stops will be modular constructions designed for scalability. This large-scale project aims to significantly improve public transportation quality.

“This is an ambitious, necessary, and highly important project for our country,” stated Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades.

Mass production of components for the “smart” stations will commence in Cyprus starting June.

Currently, Cyprus has approximately 5,000 bus stops scattered across the island. By 2030, the goal is for all bus fleets to become fully electric.
