Two Men Sentenced in Cyprus for Smuggling 25 Kilograms of Drugs
The Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court has sentenced two men for attempting to smuggle more than 25 kilograms of drugs into Cyprus. The defendants, aged 18 and 29, were handed prison terms of 10 years and 12 years, respectively.
The case dates back to September 2, 2024, when airport security at Larnaca Airport discovered drugs in the luggage of the 18-year-old suspect, who had arrived from abroad. A search of his belongings revealed 43 nylon bags containing marijuana, with a total weight of 25.6 kilograms.
The young courier was arrested under a court-issued warrant. During the investigation by the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YCAN), he implicated a 29-year-old resident of Limassol, who was subsequently arrested.
The trial was held at the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court, which found both individuals guilty. The 29-year-old received a 12-year prison sentence, while the 18-year-old was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
