Paphos Christmas Tree Arsonist Sentenced to 14 Months in Prison
A man who set fire to the Christmas tree in the Paphos town square has been sentenced by the Paphos District Court to 14 months in prison.
The 39-year-old man, a resident of a rural village, committed the act early on January 3. The Christmas tree in Paphos's central town square burned down completely before the fire service could intervene.
Following an investigation, police obtained evidence linking the man to the arson. He was arrested in the Paphos area two days later.
The police recently filed the case in the Paphos District Court, and the suspect remained in custody throughout the proceedings.
The court ruled that the 14-month prison sentence will take effect from January 10.
