Cyprus Retroactively Increases Child Benefits

The Republic of Cyprus has increased child benefit payments by 5% for all recipients. This decision is retroactively effective from January 1, 2024.

According to the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, this step is accompanied by a new measure providing 50% of child benefits to students from large families who are enrolled in full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies.

These students must be younger than 23 years old or 24 years old if they are completing mandatory military service.

Large families will receive the student benefit at 50%, depending on their income category. This rule also takes effect from January 1.

Eligible families can apply starting August 30 through a dedicated section on the Social Benefits Management Service website (https://www.wbas.dmsw.gov.cy).

Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year for students already receiving benefits can be submitted electronically via CYLogin (https://www.gov.cy) in October. However, all applications require a completed authorization form, submitted in person at social benefits service points after booking an appointment online or by phone (8000 2000).
