At the Metehan checkpoint, a father and son were caught with fake German passports
A father and his underage son have been detained in Northern Cyprus after attempting to cross into the Republic of Cyprus using counterfeit German passports. Additionally, two individuals have been arrested who may be involved in forging documents.
Yesterday, all four detainees appeared in court. The session was held in closed session as one of the suspects is a minor.
The incident occurred on May 20 around 13:00 at the Metehan-Kara gates in Nicosia. Hasan Duman and his 17-year-old son attempted to cross the border, presenting German identity cards to the immigration officer on duty, which they had previously obtained from one of the detainees. Border guards doubted the authenticity of the presented documents. As a result, the suspects were apprehended red-handed.
As part of the investigation, the suspects and two individuals involved in the crime will be detained for three days.
