On Easter, Cypriots Massively Flocked to Greece and the United Kingdom

The majority of Cypriots prefer to spend their Easter holidays abroad. The most popular destinations for Cypriot travelers traditionally are Greece, followed by the United Kingdom.

According to data from the Cyprus Association of Travel Agents, preliminary data shows a strong tendency for Cypriots to travel abroad for Easter, although a clearer picture will emerge at the end of the holiday period.

Overall, according to specialists' forecasts, the number of Cypriots vacationing abroad will be comparable to the record-breaking year of 2023, with a slight possibility of a small increase.

It is also noted that trips abroad for Easter typically last four to five days on average.

Regarding domestic tourism during the Easter period, the president of the Hoteliers Association, Filokypros Rusinides, noted that the number of local bookings is limited. Most of them are for 48 hours, with overnight costs starting from €40-50 per person.

As for foreign guests, according to industry experts' forecasts, 2024 will be challenging, as initial data for the summer season shows a decrease in the number of bookings compared to 2023.

Geopolitical instability in the region, as well as economic downturn and an energy crisis in Central Europe, are cited as reasons for the decrease in foreign travelers' activity.

Additionally, it is expected that the number of trips to Cyprus will remain at a lower level compared to last year due to restricted available flights. This is a result of the tense situation in the Middle East and airlines facing a shortage of aircraft.

The primary sources of tourism for Cyprus remain the United Kingdom, as well as markets such as Poland, Romania, Italy, France, and Germany.
