Spike in Thefts Reported at Popular Beach in Larnaca

Since the beginning of the summer season, there has been a spike in thefts at organized beaches in Larnaca. Thieves are taking advantage of people leaving their belongings unattended while swimming.

According to the Cyprus Mail, visitors to the popular Finikoudes Beach are most frequently targeted. The culprits steal unattended bags, expensive mobile phones, and wallets.

In response to the increase in thefts, the police have repeatedly warned the public to be especially vigilant when visiting the beaches. Specifically, they recommend avoiding carrying large sums of money and not leaving belongings unattended.

To combat beach thefts, the police have intensified patrols in organized recreation areas. Plainclothes officers are also being deployed to identify the culprits.

The number of complaints from victims typically rises on weekends when crowds head to the beach. During the peak tourist months of July and August, the police plan to increase checks at resort beaches.

In June, Larnaca police arrested a 44-year-old man who had been systematically stealing from beachgoers, as well as a voyeur who was illegally filming people on the beach with a mobile phone camera.
