Traffic Lights to Be Installed at Nicosia's Complex Roundabout
Traffic lights are being installed at the roundabout near Nicosia's general hospital. These lights will operate only during certain hours of the day.
The Strovolos Municipality is taking charge of managing traffic at the challenging intersection leading to Geri-Latsia.
Alexis Augustis, an engineer with the Department of Public Works, explained that a traffic study was carried out in light of new commercial developments in the area. The study revealed that traffic intensity at this roundabout increases significantly during specific times of the day, especially on Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The findings suggested that traffic lights are needed on the stretch from the Kalamon roundabout to the intersection, at the opposite exit to Geri, and within the roundabout itself.
According to Augustis, the traffic lights will be activated during peak hours to improve traffic flow and enhance safety.
The self-regulating traffic lights will be mounted on poles about six meters high and will be equipped with radar systems to monitor vehicle flow at all roundabout entries and exits.
