In Case of a Global Crisis, Cypriots Urged to Prepare 72-Hour Emergency Supplies

The European Commission has called on EU citizens to prepare essential supplies, including food, medicine, and hygiene products, for at least 72 hours in anticipation of a potential crisis.

According to Greek media, the recommendations are due to possible threats such as cyberattacks from Russia and China, a military attack on any member state, potential disruptions to the global economy, and weather-related risks caused by the ongoing climate crisis.

Speaking on the "Alpha Kalimera" program, Civil Defense spokesperson Panayiotis Liasides advised Cypriots to also begin preparing for a potential crisis. "Given the risks, people should be ready to face any threat that may arise," he said.

“We are recommending the preparation of food and medicine for 72 hours to ensure readiness for any crisis. It doesn’t mean that preparing for something makes it inevitable,” added the Civil Defense representative.

The suggested emergency kit includes dry food, water, medications, baby food and supplies (for those with children), a flashlight with batteries, and other essential items needed for 72 hours.

These supplies should be readily available in case of an emergency.

Civil Defense is expected to soon launch an information campaign on how to prepare and respond during a crisis.

"There are consequences of climate change that cannot be ignored," said government spokesperson Konstantinos Letimbiotis during his appearance on "Alpha Kalimera."
