Truck Overturns on Limassol-Nicosia Highway: Driver Hospitalized, Traffic Disrupted
A truck overturned on the Limassol-Nicosia highway, leaving the 42-year-old driver with serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital, and traffic on the highway was severely disrupted for several hours, causing kilometer-long traffic jams.
According to the police press service, the major accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. The truck collided with the right barrier of the road and overturned. As a result, the cargo and parts of the truck were scattered across the highway, blocking two lanes. Traffic heading towards Nicosia was redirected from the Pareklisia exit to the old Limassol-Nicosia road until the highway could be cleared.
The right lane of the highway, near the Monastery Junction, was reopened about 8 hours after the accident, around 9:00 a.m. Meanwhile, efforts to clear the left lane were still ongoing.
Speaking on the Alpha Kalimera program, police spokesman Christos Andreou reported that the 42-year-old truck driver is currently intubated in the hospital with serious injuries. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
