The Christmas tree on the central square of Nicosia has been lit
The Christmas tree on Eleftheria Square in Nicosia lit up over the weekend, marking the official beginning of the holiday season in Cyprus.
The lighting ceremony of the Christmas symbol concluded the program of events dedicated to the onset of the holiday.
Celebrations commenced with a parade along Stasicratous and Makarios avenues. Leading the procession was Santa Claus on a motorcycle from the historical motorcycle museum. After the festive procession reached Eleftheria Square, the lights of the Christmas tree were officially turned on by Mayor Konstantinos Georgiadis.
It is noted that the lighting of the tree was preceded by the opening of the Christmas village in the fortified city of Laiki Yitonia in Nicosia, which will remain open throughout the holiday season until January 14.
Recall that earlier, the lights on the Christmas tree were lit in Limassol's square. The festive tree can be admired on Grigori Afxentiou Square in front of the district municipality.
