Several regions of Russia are threatened by flooding: Tyumen, Kurgan, and Tomsk regions affected
Russia is experiencing unprecedented flooding. The floodwaters have reached several more regions. Following the Orenburg region, flooding threatens residents of several other regions of the country. In the Tyumen region, the city of the same name is being evacuated due to the overflow of the Ishim River, while the water level in the Tobol River in the Kurgan region has risen by 111 cm in one day.
A state of emergency is in effect in the Tyumen region. Fifty-one settlements are at risk of flooding. The peak of the flood is expected on April 23-25.
According to a Telegram message from the authorities, residents of Ishim received SMS messages at 6 am urging them to evacuate urgently from homes that may be in the flood zone due to the expected critical water level in the Ishim River.
Temporary accommodation points have been set up in the city since morning. Routes for bypassing flooded houses have been organized, with residents being warned about possible flooding of areas.
A similar situation is observed in the Kurgan region, where water is already a few kilometers from the city. The head of the region, Vadim Shumkov, urged residents of Kurgan to evacuate immediately from areas at risk of flooding.
According to authorities, as of Tuesday morning, the water level in the Tobol River is already 742 cm. Evacuation of residents and pets is being carried out in some areas beyond the Urals. Two bridges were washed away due to flooding on the Tobol River.
The flooding also reached the Tomsk region: the water level in the Tom River continues to rise rapidly. Roads and several dozen houses in villages and settlements near the regional center are flooded. The water level will continue to rise in the coming days.
Due to the worsening flood situation, an intermunicipal state of emergency has also been declared in Ulan-Ude, Ivolginsky, and Pribaikalsky districts of Buryatia.
However, the most severe flooding situation this year has developed in the Orenburg region. In early April, a dam separating the city of Orsk from the Ural River was breached. On April 5, mass evacuations began in the city and nearby settlements.
On Sunday, the water level in the Orenburg area began to decrease for the first time. Nevertheless, the flood situation in the region remains tense.
As of 9:00 on April 16, the water level in the Ural River in Orsk had decreased by 28 cm to 592 cm. At the moment, 3,232 houses remain flooded. In Orenburg, the level of the Ural River dropped by 26 cm in one day. In total, 13 microdistricts, 5 settlements, and 21 garden associations are flooded in the regional center.
More than 1,700 people have been evacuated from flooded areas in Orenburg.
