Nikos Christodoulidis Named One of the Richest Presidents in Europe
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulidis has become one of the wealthiest leaders of European countries based on the average salary level. The head of state's salary exceeds the country's average by 6.5 times.
In a study conducted by the Slot.Day publication, annual salaries of presidents from 31 European countries are compared with the average incomes in those states.
According to the research, Nikos Christodoulidis receives an annual salary of €174,637 (approximately €91.44 per hour), which is 6.51 times higher than the country's average salary. This places him fourth in the ranking.
As reported by Cyprus Mail, the largest salary gap between the president and the country's average was found in Bulgaria. Rumen Radev's salary of €124,659 per year exceeds the average population income by more than 10 times.
The salary of Ireland's President Michael Higgins ranks third in the ratio to the national average salary among all 31 countries. His annual salary of €331,470 is 6.91 times higher than the average.
The lowest ratio was found in Slovenia, where President Natasa Pirc-Musar's annual salary of €44,701 is only 1.03 times higher than the country's average.
The highest recorded presidential salary is in Switzerland, where President Viola Amherd earns €545,183 per year, which is 6.39 times higher than the country's average.
The lowest recorded figure is in Ukraine, where President Volodymyr Zelensky earns only €8,134 per year, 1.63 times higher than the country's average.
Researchers used the latest available data from national statistical offices and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for the period from 2022 to the third quarter of 2023. GDP data were taken from the International Monetary Fund's "World Economic Outlook," published in October 2023.
The estimation of the head of state's income is based on reports from independent media, national legislation, government and president's websites, profit and loss statements, and official government communications.
It was previously reported that the monthly salary of TRNC President Ersin Tatar is 149,315 Turkish lira (or 4547 euros), resulting in an annual income of 54,568 euros.
