Turkish Cypriot Community Donates €100,000 to the Committee on Missing Persons
The Turkish Cypriot community has generously donated €100,000 to the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) to support its humanitarian efforts.
“This funding will significantly contribute to the Committee’s mission to locate and return the remains of missing persons, putting an end to the uncertainty that has long troubled their families,” the organization stated in a press release.
With this donation, the total financial assistance provided by the Turkish Cypriot community since 2006 now amounts to €683,000.
It is also noteworthy that the German government recently allocated €160,000 to the CMP, bringing its total financial aid since 2006 to €960,000.
The Committee on Missing Persons was established in 1981 by the leaders of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities under the auspices of the United Nations.
CMP began its operations in 2006 and conducts missions for the exhumation, identification, and return of missing persons to their families.
To date, as part of the bi-communal project, 1,051 missing persons from both communities have been identified and returned to their families for dignified burials.
