The installation of air conditioners in Cyprus's public schools has become a key topic in recent discussions. Education Minister Athena Michaelidou met with chairpersons of school boards from Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Paralimni-Deryneia, as well as the Director General of the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC), to review the progress.

According to the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth, the first batch of air conditioners is set to be operational by the time students return to school.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that, despite some challenges and the changes to school boards following local elections, the installation process has already begun in the first 50 schools across all districts.

The next phase of the project, which will involve an additional 50 schools, is expected to start around the end of September.

The installation process will continue without interruption until all schools are equipped with air conditioners. Concurrently, energy modernization efforts are underway, including roof insulation, tree planting, and shading for all public school buildings.

It’s important to note that the installation project was announced at the end of May. However, due to unusual heat and high demand for cooling devices, installation was temporarily paused.
