Before Easter in Cyprus, the prices of olive oil, lamb, and traditional Easter pastries have risen
In the lead-up to Easter, the Consumer Protection Service of the Republic of Cyprus reported a significant increase in prices for essential Easter goods. Olive oil saw the most significant price hike.
As reported by local media, citing the Consumer Protection Service, in the year since last Easter, olive oil has increased by 105.9%. Last year, a liter of oil cost €7.31, whereas this year it is already at €15.05.
In total, agency staff analyzed prices from 87 different places selling fresh meat and 69 places selling ready-made Easter dishes from all regions of the island.
Also noted is the rise in lamb prices. Locally produced meat this year will cost €11.79 per kilogram, which is 10.67% higher than last year. Lamb chunks now cost €12.43 per kilogram, up by 9.57% compared to 2023.
Local cuisine items have also increased in price ahead of Easter, with the main Easter table dish, the pastry known as “tsoureki," now selling for €5.31 for 300 grams (€4.95 last year).
The traditional Cypriot Easter pastry, "flaouna," now costs €13.16 for the savory version and €13.03 for the sweet variant. Last year, this local delicacy was priced at €12.76 and €12.81 respectively.
At the same time, specialists note that cucumber, sunflower oil, and egg prices have significantly decreased before Easter in Cyprus.
A dozen eggs this year cost €2.89 compared to €3.18 last year. The price of village flour has also decreased by 6.83% to €1.33 from €1.42.
