British Bases Police in Cyprus Conduct ‘Santa Claus’ Operation

The British Bases Police in Cyprus carried out Operation Santa Claus, leading to the arrest of four individuals suspected of drug possession. They are set to stand trial in February.

The crime-fighting operation took place in Trachoni and Ypsonas, within the Akrotiri base, between December and January. The main focus was on illegal drug possession and distribution.

As part of the operation, authorities made a total of 62 arrests for various offenses, including possession of stolen property and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Some of those arrested were found with small quantities of drugs at the time of their detention.

During specific raids that led to the arrest of four suspects, police seized 50 ecstasy pills, 50 grams of MDMA, and a small amount of cannabis. The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is approximately €2,500.

Among those arrested, one is a Cypriot citizen, two are from Slovakia, and one is a Belarusian national. All four were residing in Trachoni and will face trial in February.
