Police: Stolen Trucks in Larnaca Were to Be Sold in the TRNC
Police in the Republic of Cyprus are investigating the theft of two trucks worth €35,000, with suspicions that smugglers from the TRNC may be involved.
The report of the theft was filed by a company that transports construction materials on September 5. The trucks were stolen from a fenced area of the company’s warehouse in Aradippou. Three days later, the police found the trucks abandoned in a wooded area near Larnaca. The first suspect, a 42-year-old man, was arrested on September 12 in connection with the case.
During questioning, the police obtained information about two other suspects. Arrest warrants were issued for both: a 41-year-old man, who was taken into custody on September 14, and a 38-year-old man, arrested on the evening of September 17. All three suspects were released pending further investigation and case registration with the courts. However, the 41-year-old man was re-arrested on different charges soon after.
According to the police, the crime appears to be linked to illegal trading activities involving smugglers in the northern part of Cyprus.
Authorities also noted that this is the second such incident in the Larnaca region in recent months.
In July of last year, a 38-year-old man was arrested for stealing a car and trailer worth €40,000, allegedly intending to sell them in the northern part of the island.
